Authors observed a case of temporomandibular joint ankylosis due to myositis ossificans on the internal pterygoid muscle and mylohyoidal muscle.
The patient, 19 years old, female, admitted Dental College Infirmary with chief complaint of ankylosis of her temporomandibular joint.
The patient has had trouble on left side mandibular joint region since her age were 3 years old when she had received accidental trauma on that region.
The collagenous tissue indicating myositis ossificans is prominent diffusely in the external pterygoidal muscle in microscopical figure.
We excised out of these collagenous fiber bundres, and process of condyle is removed by mean of surgical bur approached with socalled Risdon¢¥s incision.
After remove of affected condylar process, patient could open her mouth about 2.5 CM with sign of dull pain sensation on -her right side (nonaffected side) cheek.
